Our Lady of La Vang Special School is a new facility of Catholic Education SA. Betterland was contacted in the early stages of the project planning to design a master plan for the school exterior play spaces. The areas to be developed included a junior’s play space, a senior’s yard and a staff retreat/ interview area. The design was unique in the way it included a large variety of learning environments and catered for the range of disabilities.
Betterland was then engaged to construct the design which took approximately 8 weeks to complete. The end result is a stunning outside environment which includes many natural features, flowing water , soundscapes, natural materials, an activity play station, swings, a large grass area, seats, quiet places, tables and chairs, natural and textured paths including a bike path. The selection of life sized animals were included in the design to stimulate the student’s imagination. A variety of plants and trees help to beautify and soften the play environment and provide seasonal shade.
The finished play space at Our Lady of La Vang Special School is a very open planned play space which supports a diverse range of learning environments and physical activities, very much an asset to the students, the staff, the school and its surrounds.
